In October 2018, NBC ordered further episodes for the first season and subsequently renewed the series for a second season that aired in 2020, and again for a third in 2021. In June 2021, the series was canceled by NBC after three seasons. The series was added to Netflix shortly before it was canceled and immediately topped the viewing charts, persuading Netflix to renew Manifest for a fourth and final season consisting of twenty episodes, with part one premiering on November 4, 2022.[1][2]

On April 15, 2019, NBC renewed the series for a second season, which premiered on January 6, 2020.[64][65] On June 15, 2020, NBC renewed the series for a third season which premiered on April 1, 2021.[66][67]

In February 2018, Josh Dallas, Melissa Roxburgh, and J. R. Ramirez joined the pilot's main cast.[68][69] Athena Karkanis, Parveen Kaur, and Luna Blaise were cast in main roles the following month.[70][71] In August 2019, Yasha Jackson, Garrett Wareing, Andrene Ward-Hammond, and Ellen Tamaki were cast in recurring roles for the second season.[8][6] In October 2019, Leah Gibson and Carl Lundstedt had been cast in recurring capacities.[9] On September 22, 2020, Holly Taylor was cast a new series regular for the third season.[4] On October 22, 2020, Will Peltz was cast in a recurring role for the third season.[10]

On June 14, 2021, NBC canceled the series after three seasons.[72] Due to the cliffhanger ending to season 3 and the fact that creator Jeff Rake originally sold Manifest to NBC with a six-season plan mapped out, Rake and others were hopeful that the series would get picked up by another platform. One possibility was Netflix, where the first two seasons of Manifest debuted in the #3 spot and quickly rose to the most watched show on the streaming service. Rake tweeted on June 15: "I am devastated by NBC's decision to cancel us. That we've been shut down in the middle is a gut punch to say the least. Hoping to find a new home. You fans deserve an ending to your story."[72] On June 21, 2021, Warner announced that negotiations with Netflix had broken down and that they would no longer be seeking a new home for the series.[73] The following week, Rake followed-up on the status quo regarding the series' proper conclusion, stating that: "We're trying to find a way to conclude the series. Could take a week, a month, a year. But we're not giving up. You deserve an end to the story."[74]

On June 30, 2021, Entertainment Weekly reported that Rake was now looking for a platform that would bankroll a two-hour Manifest film that would cut to the chase and tie up all the loose ends from the third-season finale. Said Rake, "There is a huge appetite for people wanting to know what's that end of the story, what happened to the passengers, what ultimately happened to that airplane."[75][76]

The following month, however, it was reported that talks had resumed between Warner Bros. Television and NBC regarding the series' renewal for a potential fourth season, with Netflix also taking part in the renewal discussions.[77] On August 28, 2021, Netflix renewed Manifest for a fourth and final season, consisting of 20 episodes, split across multiple parts. Dallas and Roxburgh were set to return, with additional original cast members in negotiations to return as well.[1] On September 9, 2021, it reported that Kaur, Blaise, Taylor return as series regulars alongside Dallas, Roxburgh, and Ramirez while Karkanis and Messina exited and Ty Doran was promoted to series regular taking over Messina's role as the older Cal.[3] A day later, it was announced that Daryl Edwards has been promoted to series regular.[78] Matt Long, who was initially feared not able to return for the fourth season due to scheduling conflicts, was also later confirmed to be joining the cast for the fourth season.[79] The first part of the fourth season premiered on November 4, 2022.[2]

Overall, Estimated Time of Departure was a decent finale to this freshman drama. The story managed to reveal more information than most of the back-half of this season. Unfortunately, some of it was at the cost of contrived twists and turns that felt a bit convenient to rush another cliffhanger into the finale. The characters reeled with the information dump they received this week with some dealing with it better than others. With so many questions posed, it would be a shame never to learn more about these characters and the mysterious situation surrounding Flight 828.

After weeks and months of back and forth (and plenty of insider notes that talks were ongoing courtesy of Deadline) a deal was eventually struck and a supersized final season was announced on August 28th, 2021.

These stories tragically converged in the season 3 finale, when Angelina snuck into the Stone household with a knife, stabbing Grace and departing with baby Eden. As Grace lay dying, she was joined by an older version of Cal (played by Ty Doran), who had aged from a pubescent boy to a young man in the hours since his disappearance.

Perhaps the biggest change at the beginning of season 4 is that it picks up two years in to the future, when passengers are forced to register with the government and check in once a month to avoid being arrested.

The most important piece of new information about the mystery surrounding Flight 828 concerns the ""death date" the passengers discover in the season 1 finale. The date appears to be different for each person, and is determined by the length of time the person has been missing.

The final episode of the half-season sees the Stones racing to find the Omega Sapphire before it can fall into the wrong hands, as Cal inches closer to death in the family home. Unbeknownst to them, Angelina has already stolen the sapphire.

Meanwhile Olive works with TJ (returned from his trip to Egypt in season 2) to discover more about the sapphire. They find evidence that Cal may be the key to tipping the scales of destiny back in their favour.

Traumatic twilight state on the one and amnestic episode (transient global amnesia) on the other side are as a rule easy to differentiate from the patient's age, his behavior during the acute state of disease and the kind of its improving. Contrary to other authors' opinion, differentiation is not just possible by diagnosing an injury or its absence. In minor skull traumata preceding the traumatic twilight states injuries are often not manifest and otherwise amnestic episodes occasionnally occur after minor traumata. In a 64 years old woman an obviously typical amnestic episode appeared in direct connection with a probable fall on the back of the head. A 28 years old man underwent a five-hour amnestic episode whereas the EEG showed normal curves. The episode occurred 15 minutes after striking hard upon the ground with the back of the head during a ground roll without following unconsciousness. In both cases traumatic twilight states were not involved. In account of the interval of 15 minutes the trauma of the second case seems not be be the direct cause for the manifestation of amnestic episode. It also shows that the aspect of the disease in the rare occurrence in younger or middle-aged persons is on principle not different from that in old ones. Since a special medical examination during the acute state is only possible as exception the patient's amnestically seizable behaviour obtains greatest importance in differential diagnosis. For the rare coincidence the trauma is given no pathogenetic relevance in amnestic episodes.
